Senior Systems Engineer

Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Lead Systems Engineer will interface with all functional groups within Roccor but there is an emphasis on the ability to work with the Engineering, Quality and Laboratory Management groups to ensure an efficient development process and smooth transition through design, build, and test.  The Lead Systems Engineer will be the head technical person on projects to which they are assigned, and will interact externally with the customer and internally with the project technical team to capture and communicate requirements and guide the technical development.

Essential Functions

  • Understand the voice of the customer and continually inject that vision into the product development effort
  • Develop technical work plans for new product development including estimation of resources required
  • Analyze and define product functional requirements
  • Analyze and define subsystem requirements including: mechanical, electrical, embedded systems, user interface, etc.
  • Own product functional and validation requirements
  • Perform hazards/risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies
  • Apply engineering principles to, and directly participate in, the design, fabrication, assembly, and test of various systems
  • Generate and review fabrication, test, and quality assurance documentation and vendor specifications
Competencies
  • 10+ years of post-grad experience developing custom space products
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods for fast proof-of-concept development
  • Experience writing and maintaining design and test quality assurance documentation
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with all phases of development including requirements analysis, prototype design, product design, assembly, debug, and testing
  • Expert in CAD (e.g. Solidworks)
  • Excellent internal and client-facing collaboration and communication skills
  • Communication skills to coordinate project status with appropriate levels of management throughout the company
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, a Sr. Systems Engineer is expected to lead peers by example as a wizened subject matter expert within the group.  As such, you will be called upon to mentor younger engineers, but not deal with the department budget, performance reviews, etc.

Thermal Design Engineer

Classification: Exempt

Summary/Objective

Roccor is looking for a talented and motivated mechanical or aerospace engineer to help develop our emerging thermal product portfolio for high power electronic packages within satellite and military platforms. As a Thermal Product Engineer, you will be integral in the expansion of Roccor’s product portfolio in this fast-paced growing product area with a high degree of latitude in developing and reducing new concepts to practice through close collaboration with our product and operations teams as well as interfacing with customer technical teams. By joining Roccor you will have an immediate impact on translating cutting edge thermal transport and dissipation technologies into commercial products. You will be given both freedom to explore new ideas, and responsibility to apply a disciplined and rigorous system engineering approach to add value and ensure product success. The Thermal Product area at Roccor is poised with a high degree of both tactical and strategic opportunity.   • Design and support production and test of thermal products and systems.
  • Lead mechanical and thermal design of electronics packages that accommodate heat transfer and dissipation, thermomechanical stresses, environment loads/stress, etc.
  • Support system design trade studies with heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis using closed form and computational methods.
  • Build wide knowledge of Roccor’s competitive position against traditional and emerging products and technologies.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with sales and marketing, production and test teams.

  • Experience with Engineering Design Documentation and Quality Control (e.g.: Engineering Drawings, Work Orders, Manufacturing and Test Plans, etc.).
  • Systems engineering exposure is a plus (e.g. DFMEA, Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Manufacturing and Test Readiness Reviews, etc.).

Summary/Objective

The Project Manager has ultimate authority and responsibility for overall success of projects and project execution to achieve on-time, on-budget results.

Leads small, medium, and large high-tech projects with varying levels of risk and scope complexity and is a key component of fostering customer relationships and securing new business opportunities.
