Senior Systems Engineer

Summary/Objective

The Sr. Systems Engineer will interface with all functional groups within Roccor, with an emphasis on the ability to work with the Engineering, Quality and Laboratory Management groups to ensure an efficient development process and smooth transition through design, build, and test.  The Lead Systems Engineer will be the head technical person on projects to which they are assigned, and will interact externally with the customer and internally with the project technical team to capture and communicate requirements and guide the technical development.

  • Understand the voice of the customer and continually inject that vision into the product development effort
  • Develop technical work plans for new product development including estimation of resources required
  • Analyze and define product functional requirements
  • Analyze and define subsystem requirements including: mechanical, electrical, embedded systems, user interface, etc.
  • Own product functional and validation requirements
  • Perform hazards/risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies
  • Apply engineering principles to, and directly participate in, the design, fabrication, assembly, and test of various systems

Competencies
  • 10+ years of post-grad experience developing custom space products
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods for fast proof-of-concept development

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience with all phases of development including requirements analysis, prototype design, product design, assembly, debug, and testing
  • Expert in CAD (e.g. Solidworks)
  • Excellent internal and client-facing collaboration and communication skills
  • Communication skills to coordinate project status with appropriate levels of management throughout the company
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. However, a Sr. Systems Engineer is expected to lead peers by example as a wizened subject matter expert within the group.  As such, you will be called upon to mentor younger engineers, but not deal with the department budget, performance reviews, etc.

Mechanical Engineer

Summary/Objective

Roccor is looking for a talented and motivated mechanical or aerospace engineer to help support satellite spaceflight missions including structure, solar arrays, and whatever other cool products we’re working on. The person in this position will be responsible for the concept, trade studies, design, selection, development, assembly, integration and test of different mecahnical systems.   • Perform concept trades, concept design, and detailed design of spaceflight mechanical systems and their components.
  • Provide flight fabrication, assembly and testing services, including the potential development of ETUs.

  • Verify system architecture through RF analysis or review of external analysis

  • RF design: Experience designing multiple RF architectures and understanding their advantages and limitations
  • RF analysis and test: Experience with RF performance modeling techniques and test methods to verify RF performance – ideally applied to large-aperture satellite antennas
  • Collaboration: Ability to listen, communicate, and collaborate with internal team and multiple customers
  • Problem solving: Identify system risks to project team and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Attention to detail: Ability to track, maintain, and update large sets of requirements and system constraints
  • Adaptable: Comfortable performing a variety of tasks throughout the multiple engineering disciplines at Roccor
  • MS Office: Ability to establish, track, and share project architecture, analysis, requirements, and status using multiple software tools
  • Product Lifecycle: Experience with all phases of development including architecture definition, analysis, prototype design, product design, assembly, debug, and testing
  • Communicate project status: Share technical status (positives and risks) with appropriate levels of management throughout the company

  •  Space and antennas: Background in space, small satellites, and high-gain apertures
  • Planning: Develop technical work plans for new product development including estimation of resources required
  • Leading projects: Experience leading teams of engineers to design and develop hardware
  • Documentation generation review: Generate and review fabrication, test, and quality assurance documentation and vendor specifications
  • Supplier management: Act as technical point of contact between Roccor and supplier ensuring the work product meets technical specifications

Spacecraft Mission PM

Summary/Objective

The Project Manager has ultimate authority and responsibility for overall success of projects and project execution to achieve on-time, on-budget results.  The Project Manager leads small, medium, and large high-tech projects with varying levels of risk and scope complexity.  The person in this role is a key component of fostering relationships and securing new business opportunities with customers, strategic technology development partners, consultants, and subcontractors.  

Essential Functions

  • Work collaboratively with Lead Engineer ensuring a balance of meeting or exceeding customer expectations and requirements while achieving the project budget, schedule and risk tolerance 
  • Develop detailed project plans for hardware product development through various states of design maturity and product life cycles 
  • Facilitate resource utilization across multiple technical and organizational disciplines 
  • Project Team Leadership including generating and updating work plans, schedules, tasks, and status 
  • Manage project scope, identifying and properly addressing deviations  
  • Risk identification, management, and issue tracking / closure 
  • Ensure quality system requirements are met 
  • Day-to-day customer relationship, general customer satisfaction, meeting contractual obligations 
  • Coordinate contract review activities between customer, Roccor, and sub-contractors to ensure activities are completed in a timely fashion 
  • Generate and keep updated all necessary reports and presentations to communicate project status, obtain necessary support, and maintain accountability 
Required Competencies
  • Decision Making: Autonomously facilitates the decision-making process to progress actions and tasks towards meeting aggressive milestones, deliverables and cost targets
  • Technical Knowledge: Experience with programmatic, quality, and technical space flight hardware development requirements
  • Hardware Development: Experienced with various mechanical and electrical product design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing processes
  • Communication: Capable of facilitating verbal and written communication with all levels of a small business organization.  Able to clearly present and facilitate complex interactions demanded by hardware development
  • Program Management Tools: Advanced experience with Microsoft project management and collaboration tools.  Open to learning and bringing new tools to an organization to track and communicate project plans, status, and action item closure
  • Subcontractor Management: Capable of managing complex projects requiring coordination with major subcontractors, technical contractors, and strategic partners.  Generates contract requirements and task orders for supporting business relationships

Preferred Competencies

  • Spacecraft Integration: Preferred candidates have experience successfully managing a spacecraft integration project through the processes of design, qualification, assembly and test, launch integration and support, and in-orbit operations
  • Certifications: Achieved Project Management Professional certification is a plus
  • Continuous Improvement: Thrive on finding new and exciting ways to improve project management tools and processes to increase efficiency across organizations and multiple projects
  • Multi-tasking: Ability to maintain focus on key project objectives with multiple demands from internal and external customers
